What is the YouthLab?
Past developments in Africa and Europe have shown: There is much to learn from each other as regards to creating perspectives for youth in the digital age. This is the aim of the AU-EU YouthLab: To bring together the best ideas of young, digital innovators and entrepreneurs from both continents and to jointly develop a set of concrete recommendations for policy makers and business leaders from Africa and Europe. The YouthLab is a modern think tank of the youth. It intends to give guidance to leaders via a Manifesto on Digital Entrepreneurship and the final Declaration of the AU-EU Summit in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, 27th of November 2017. Youth, let’s create the future!
Who can participate?
We’re looking for young (up to 30 years of age), digital creatives, entrepreneurs and thinkers, that can contribute to the question: How can we support young innovators in founding and accelerating digital organizations and companies for working and living?
Your ideas can relate to one of the three core areas:
- Enabling local ecosystems that support founders of digital companies
- Supporting especially young women in leading and growing digital businesses
- Improving access to digital skills and knowledge through technology

The most successful ten innovators will be chosen by the betterplace lab and invited to a workshop in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, taking place on 25-27 November. Cost for travel and stay will be covered.
In Abidjan, the European finalists will meet the ten challenge winners of the African YouthLab track to jointly work on ideas and prototypes. At the EU-Africa Business Forum on November 27th, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback from policy makers and business leaders. Your ideas could also be part of the official Business Forum documents that will be fed into the Africa-EU political discourse.
