Vouch Digital is an electronic voucher system which uses digital processes to combat cash transfer programmes’ vulnerability to corruption and fraud. Food vouchers are given out to beneficiaries in the form of cards like those used for topping up mobile phone credit. These cards can be redeemed with selected local shopkeepers. The shopkeeper types the USSD code on the card into their smartphone to find out what products they should provide, and the money is paid out immediately to the shopkeeper’s mobile phone. The platform can then forward all data directly to the contracting organisation.
