M-Shule – “Mobile School” – is the first adaptive mobile learning platform in Africa which connects primary school students with personalised tutoring and assessments using SMS. Founded by Kenyan Julie Otieno and American Claire Mongeau, M-Shule’s platform uses artificial intelligence to provide personalised learning support in Maths and English via SMS and chatbots. The system uses each student’s learning data to create and deliver the most relevant learning content for them in the form of SMS-based lessons, tailored to each pupil’s strengths. M-Shule then shares performance data and results with parents, schools and organisations to empower the whole learning community.
