Stefanie Zinsmeyer takes over the leadership of AEDIB

The AEDIB will establish a Pan-African network of Digital Innovation Hubs, which provide SMEs access to the tools, knowledge and networks to take advantage of digital opportunities. Across the African and European continents, dynamic local digital innovation networks are on the rise, with innovation and tech-hubs at their core. These networks create important opportunities for employment and economic growth, paving the way for a faster economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic recession.

The African European Digital Innovation Bridge – Who is behind it?

Initiated by EU Members States (France, Belgium, and Germany) and the European Commission, the African European Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB) aims at strengthening digital innovation ecosystems in Africa and promoting intercontinental dialogue between innovators and policymakers in Africa and Europe. On behalf of the BMZ, GIZ has taken over the coordination of AEDIB and leads a consortium of 14 partners, with funding from the European Commission. Stefanie Zinsmeyer is in the lead (contact details below).

What are the goals?

AEDIB´s focus will be on establishing a Pan-African network of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) on the ground where national, regional, pan-African and intercontinental innovation partnerships are created, and mutual learning and joint solution development is facilitated. This will play a pivotal role for the update of digital technologies by African SMEs and startups and to create stronger partnerships and networks between African and European SMEs, innovative entrepreneurs, ICT professionals, startups and investors.

A network of strong partners

The AEDIB brings together a network of strong partners from the European and African digital innovation ecosystem: pan-African policy actors and digital policy think tanks, support organizations for African startups as well as the leading entrepreneurship platform providers and business angel network facilitators.  Their expertise, experience and networks are core to successfully building networks on the continent and beyond.
